Punnamada Jetty

Punnamada Jetty (also known as Punnamada Boat Jetty) is a famous and vital boat landing point located in Alappuzha (Alleppey), Kerala. It is situated on the shores of the Punnamada Lake, which is a part of the vast Vembanad Lake, India’s longest lake.

Punnamada Jetty is primarily known for two major things:

  1. Hub for Houseboat Cruises: It is one of the main starting points for the world-renowned Kerala backwater houseboat cruises. Thousands of tourists begin their journey from this jetty to explore the intricate network of canals, lagoons, and lakes of Alappuzha.
  2. Nehru Trophy Boat Race: The jetty is located at the heart of the action for the Nehru Trophy Boat Race, one of the most prestigious snake boat races in the world. The Punnamada Lake serves as the racecourse, and the area around the jetty, including the “Nehru Trophy Finishing Point,” is where spectators gather to watch the event, which is held annually on the second Saturday of August.
